Stuart Smith, P.Eng.

As a Professional Field Engineer, Wireline Supervisor, and Log Analyst that is acutely aware of the demands placed on field personnel, Stuart Smith’s mantra is “Call me if you think I can help”.
With over 30 years of domestic and international experience in offshore with semi-submersibles and jack-ups and onshore with triples to poles and slant rigs in both open and cased-hole environments, Stuart Smith’s experience includes vertical and horizontal wellbore surveying and BHA guidance using Magnetic Steering Tools and Gyroscopes. This experience has created a passion and deep understanding for the wellbore and formation investigation sciences with relentless regard for accuracy and consistency.
With over a decade of experience in both cased-hole well integrity log analysis using electromagnetic phase-shift and decay methodologies, and in the evaluation of conventional cement bond logs and acoustic impedance logs Stuart has developed 3-detector cased-hole gamma density porosity algorithms accepted as a replacement for the same measurement in open-hole.
Stuart has also developed a conventional bond log cement evaluation model used successfully on more than 700 SAGD wells in 10.75” and greater casings and more than 500 wells in casing sizes from 4.5” to 9-5/8”. The model has been used successfully since its development in 2013 and works equally well for lightweight and foam cement.
With a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Western University, and fluency in Spanish Stuart Smith currently works as a log analyst with Multiline Wireline Services Ltd. and has been a P.Eng. member of APEGA since 1992.
