Jane Grant, CPHR
As an energetic and versatile Human Resources Management Consultant, Jane has over 25 years of experience in the design, facilitation, and evaluation of various training and development programs, including leadership development programs.


Jane’s passion and enthusiasm for the training and development area is evident in the facilitation of her highly interactive and engaging courses. Jane’s participants have included those working in oil and gas, manufacturing, information technology, health care, government, education, engineering, not-for-profit, etc. Jane has also taught for many years at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).


Jane is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR retired), and a Certified Coach Practitioner. Jane is a member of CPHR BC & Yukon, a past member of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants, and a past director of the Southern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants.

Industry experience includes oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, engineering, utilities, accounting and finance, information technology, health care, government and educational services.

  • Over 10+ years of experience working with various organizations regarding leadership development frameworks, training and development programs, and connecting leadership development frameworks to business systems and processes.
  • For a 10-year period was a leadership development instructional designer and facilitator for The City of Calgary, City-Specific Program.
  • Over the years was retained by different City of Calgary business areas including Waste & Recycling, Business Advisory Services, Corporate Properties & Buildings, Recreation, Water Centre, and Community Services & Protective Services, to design and facilitate programs on various topics including transition and change management.
  • Established and managed human resource departments in mid-size organizations.
  • Provided human resource services in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
  • Developed and implemented talent acquisition processes including onboarding programs for all levels within a variety of organizations.
  • Designed and implemented performance and career development systems in several organizations including mentoring, coaching and career development processes.
  • Participated in the design and implementation of compensation systems.
  • Designed and implemented organizational-wide employee surveys.
  • Several years of experience developing and executing on learning and development needs assessments.

  • As an instructional designer, used the DACUM method to develop various training modules for a province-wide training program.

  • Designed and facilitated several leadership development courses for The City of Calgary, City-Specific Program. Topics included: Results-Based Approach to Performance Measurement, Information and Records Management, Integrated Risk Management, Sustainability / Triple Bottom Line Business Planning and Budgeting, Job Design and Evaluation, Managing Workplace Safety, Health and Wellness, Mental Health in the Workplace, Labour Relations, Pay and Benefits, Organization and Position Management, Performance and Career Management, Skills for Positive Interactions with Employees, Recruitment and Selection, and Employee Departures.
  • Designed and facilitated several training and development programs for various companies (oil and gas, engineering / EPC) in the private sector; topics included Interpersonal Communications, Assertiveness, Conflict Management, Stress Management, Time Management, MBTI®, and Leadership Essentials.
  • Provided a wide range of HR services for several private sector corporate clients including business and HR strategic planning, talent acquisition, onboarding processes, organizational-wide surveys, performance and career development processes, talent development, succession planning, compensation systems, and development of HR policies and procedures.
  • Designed a competency-based Career Pathing and Training Program for a private company in the manufacturing sector. This included the integration of several systems and processes including recruitment, selection and orientation, performance and career development, and training and development. Positions included Labourers, Welding Apprentices, and Journeymen Welders to Lead Hands, Foreman, Project Manager, Purchaser, Quality Control and OH&S.
  • Over a six year period, instructed assertiveness training courses at SAIT.
  • Instructed courses at Mount Royal University including Business Communications, Human Resource Basics and Organizational Learning, Training and Development for the Management Development Certificate Program and the Human Resources Certificate Program.
  • Conducted focus group sessions on behalf of Mount Royal University, Continuing Education & Extension for new certificate programs in Business Process Management and Project Management in Construction.
  • Instructed evening / weekend courses at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Continuing Education, in the Career Development Certificate program. Courses developed and instructed included: Consulting in Career Development, Career Development in Organizations, and Assessment Skills in the Career Counselling Process.
  • Participated in the design and writing of an instructors’ reference guide for training programs with culturally diverse groups.
  • Provided consultation services and information regarding the change management process, and developed a human resources strategic plan for a petroleum services organization in China.
  • Designed and facilitated sessions for members of various professional associations (e.g. CAPLA, CALA).
