SUMMARY
Senior petroleum geologist with more than 15 years’ experience in the exploration, development and regional geology of Canada with some experience in Europe and Southeast Asia. Core expertise in clastic sedimentology, petrophysics and petrology. Experienced in conventional and tight natural gas plays; in primary, secondary and enhanced oil recovery as well as in some heavy oil plays. Frequent geology instructor and presenter; published over a dozen technical papers and presentations.

OIL & GAS INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
2007 – Present
Eucalyptus Consulting Inc., Calgary, AB
Geological Consulting: Reservoir, petrographic and sedimentological studies
- Reservoir characterization for heavy oil: CSS project – Clearwater Gp,, Primrose, NE Alberta.
- Reservoir Characterization of Glauconitic/Sunburst – Grand Forks. S. Alberta.
Geology Instructor
Teaches and taught the following for the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists and Canadian Natural Resources Limited:
- Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous Formations in N.E. B.C.
- Reservoir Geology of Sandstone
- Geology for Engineers.
2001 - 2007
Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Calgary, AB
Exploration Geologist
- Conducted regional studies with emphasis on reservoir quality.
- Advised on tertiary recovery projects.
- Mentored and supervised junior geologists.
- Regional studies involved the Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous tight gas reservoirs of northeast British Columbia, the Cardium in Northwest Alberta and a detailed review of the Lower Mannville water flood in Horsefly and implementation of a polymer flood.
1992 - 2001
Eucalyptus Consulting Inc., Calgary, AB
Geological Consultant
Consulted for numerous oil and gas companies and taught industry courses in Canada, Indonesia and Egypt. Some of the projects included:
- Reservoir evaluation of various Glauconitic waterflood projects in Southern Alberta. Projects resulted in a new depletion strategy and approximately twenty drilling locations.
- Reservoir Geology study of various Basal Belly River oil pools in Central Alberta. The study resulted in a new reservoir management approach for these pools and many drilling locations.
- Reservoir characterization and facies analysis of the Talang Akar Formation in SE Sumatra, Indonesia. Over 200m of core and more than 20 thin sections were described in detail and analyzed. The study resulted in a significant change in the depositional model and in improved criteria for the recognition of productive zones. The study had a significant impact on client negotiations with third parties.
- A multi-disciplinary literature review and preliminary feasibility estimate of the enhanced recovery potential of the Otaraoa Formation - New Zealand.
- Review of the waterflood performance of the Halkirk Upper Mannville 'I' pool, Alberta, Canada. The study was used by the client as a model for secondary oil recovery in similar pools in the area.
- Generated gas plays and executed drilling programs for the Belly River Formation in South-Central Alberta. The programs increased the production of the client company dramatically.
- Glauconitic and adjacent deposits in West Provost. A multi-client regional study focusing on the correlation of regional transgressive-regressive successions. The correlations were used to date associated channel deposits. The study included detailed examination of core and reservoir quality assessment using petrography and petrophysics.
1979 - 1992
PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, AB
Junior Geologist, District Geologist and Staff Geologist
In Geosciences Department, conducted regional evaluations of several hydrocarbon
bearing intervals, such as, the Belly River, Devonian and Pre-Devonian formations
in southern Alberta. Conducted numerous detailed pool evaluations throughout Alberta
ranging from heavy oil reservoirs in the Lindbergh area to Glauconitic oil and gas
reservoirs in Alderson, Countess and Thorsby. Annually proposed 35 to 100 successful oil
and gas wells, averaging 35 wells annually.
University of Utrecht, Holland 1971-1979. As part of geological curriculum performed fieldworks in Fluvial Eocene deposits of the Pyrenees of N. Spain (M.Sc. Thesis); Frimmersdorf West (near Cologne) – Open pit lignite mine in Germany (secondary Thesis), Italian Apennines; Provence – S. France. Short Field Schools in Germany, Swiss Alps, Basin of Paris, Belgian Ardennes.
